Generally after surgery the hospital tend to provide you with a soft lightweight foam filled pad, sometimes referred to as a “cumfie” to wear for approximately 6-8 weeks inside on your bra or crop top. During this time it is advisable to wear a soft bra for comfort and gentle support. A Silver post surgery bra or a front fastening bra may be more comfortable as you may experience some restricted movements in the arm for a short time afterwards. Once healed a silicone prosthesis is normally supplied to be worn inside the bra cup to restore body balance. These breast forms vary in shape, size and weight. Post surgery the nerves have to repair and any skin changes from radiotherapy and scaring have to settle down and heal. It may therefore be best to avoid wearing a wired bra during this time. However if you do prefer a wired bra once healed ensure that the wires do not lie directly on to scar tissue or your natural breast, and that you do not show any signs of lymphoedema.
